Leon Franklin Fraley of Fort Gay

Leon Franklin Fraley, 76, died peacefully on January 10, 2012, after a recurrence of lung cancer. Whether called Snook, Freddie, Leon, Gramps or Dad, he was loved by all who were fortunate enough to be part of his life - for a moment or a lifetime. Leon grew up in Fort Gay, and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1955. He proudly served his country for 20 years and retired in 1975 as a Sergeant First Class (E-7), serving two tours in Korea and one in Vietnam. He married Anna E. Parrill in August 1957; they were happily married 37 years-until her death in January 1995. He and Ann had Kitty in 1959 and Kelly in 1960. If there was one thing Leon loved more than cooking, fishing, and hunting, it was his family. Leon and his family moved to San Antonio, TX, in 1970 from Anchorage, AK. After retiring from the Army in 1975, Leon became a cross-country truck driver. He was owner/operator of Fraley Family Trucking before retiring and returning to Louisa, KY, in 1999. He married Joan Carter of Inez, KY, in December 2001 and became a stepfather to her five grown children. At the time of his death, his family had grown to include grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Effie Fraley, five brothers, and seven sisters. Survivors include his wife, Joan; daughter Kitty Fraley King and son-in law Brian of Colorado Springs, CO; son Kelly Leon Fraley and daughter-in-law Natalie of San Antonio, TX; granddaughters Kendall A. King and Kaeli L. King of Colorado Springs; grandsons Forrest F. Fraley and Zachary L. Fraley and granddaughter Devin D. Fraley of San Antonio; sisters Ann Hammonds and Edith Hanshaw of Louisa, KY; Rita Burchette of Jackson, OH; and Nancy Sue Cave of Bremen, OH. Other survivors include three stepdaughters , two stepsons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, January 15 at 2 p.m. Viewing is Saturday, January 14 from five to nine in the evening. The funeral and viewing will be at Young’s Funeral Home in Louisa, KY. Interment at Wellman Cemetery will follow the service.
