Curtis Talmadge Dowling of Ashland, Kentucky

Curtis Talmadge Dowling, 77, of Ashland, Kentucky went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, February 27, 2011 peacefully in his sleep at his residence. He was born in Ashland, Ky. on September 14, 1933 to Gerald Michael and Mabel Bellew Dowling, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by three brothers Ralph, Norman, and Raymond Abbott He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann Wike Dowling of Ashland. He was in advertising sales for numerous local newpapers and radio stations; former owner and operator of The Smart Shop for 10 years; member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards, was a member of the chancel Choir and was a former President of Methodist men; He was a member of B.P.O.E. Lodge 350; The American Legion Post 76; Continental Dance Club; Kentucky Colonel; He was a U.K.Alumni and was an avid UK fan; He served in the U.S. Army and National Guard.

He is survived by a son, Michael Curtis Dowling and his wife Charlotte of Ashland; a daughter, Joanna Lynn Heck and husband Andrew of Chapel Hill, TN. ; Grandchildren Jessica Ethel Heck, Caroline Elizabeth heck, Andrew Michael Heck, Jr. and Martha Ann Heck; a sister-in-law, Virginia May Wike Thomas and husband Glen of Grayson, Ky.

Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 11:00 at at First United Methodist Church with Reverend John Street and Reverend Gene Pillow officiating. Entombment will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park Mausoleum; Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Steen Funeral Home-13th street Chapel and from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the church.
