Robert "Bobby" Hall Hathaway, Jr. of Hurricane

Robert “Bobby” Hall Hathaway, Jr. of Hurricane died peacefully in his sleep Jan. 24, 2012, after a long illness. Bobby was born in South Charleston on Jan. 25, 1955. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hall Hathaway, Sr. and his foster-brother, John Ballentine. Surviving are his mother, Lois Jean Billups Hathaway; brother Rodney Hathaway of Culloden; sisters, Karen Ward and Helen Cook of Hurricane, Nancy Drake of Scott Depot, Mary Beth Bednar of Pittsboro, N.C.; and foster-brother, Roger Elliott of Hurricane. He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Kristen and Bing Ward, Josiah and Marissa Drake, and Andrew and Mary Ann Bednar. Bobby was Putnam County’s first special education student. He was a 1976 graduate of Hurricane High School. As his early life helped to create educational programs for disabled children, his later years highlighted the needs of aging disabled adults. Services were held Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Allen Funeral Home Chapel, 2837 Main St., Hurricane with the Rev. Thomas Malcolm officiating. Burial followed in Valley View Memorial Park.
