Frances L. Fortner Nelson of Kenova

Frances L. Fortner Nelson, 87, of Kenova, WV went to be with her Lord on Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington, WV. She was born August 30, 1924 in Kenova, WV a daughter of the late Walker and Sarah Rhoda Perry Fortner. Frances was a faithful member of Philadelphia United Baptist Church in Huntington. She had worked as a rural route mail carrier and she was a dedicated homemaker to her family. In addition to her parents Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leslie Nelson; a daughter, Janice Shelton; two sisters, Imogene Byer and Gladys Fortner and two brothers, Harold and John Fortner. She is survived by one son, Leslie R. Nelson; a daughter, June Hatten and her husband James; three sisters, Della Mae Robertson, Mary Trytek and Joann Quiggins; three brothers, Paul, Sam and Dick Fortner; five grandchildren, Terri (Chuck) Wentz, Greg (Cindy) Hatten, Lisa (Dolf) Fischer, Gail (Brian) Hunter and Gavin (Crystal) Hatten; nine great grandchildren, Chuckie Wentz, Jacob Hunter, Travis Fischer, Courtney Hatten, Eric Hatten, Jared Hunter, Joey Fischer, Nickolas Hatten and Jordann Hatten and a very special sister-in-law, Ellie Fortner. The family would like to express a special thanks to the staff of Heritage Nursing Home for their care of Frances. Flowers will be accepted and appreciated or memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Unit at Heritage Nursing Home, 101 13th Street, Huntington, WV 25701. The family received friends from 12:00 until 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 9, 2012 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova, WV. Funeral services began at 2:30 p.m. with Brother Donald Gene Maynard and Elder David Messer officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rollinsfh.com
