Mary Elizabeth Thacker of Kenova

Mary Elizabeth Thacker, 97, died peacefully on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wayne, WV. Elizabeth was a lifelong resident of Wayne County, born at Tabor’s Creek to her parents, Fred and Clara Billups. The family moved to Kenova when Elizabeth was young and she remained there throughout her life. She was a sister to Thomas and Frank Billups, Dorothy Rutherford, Stella Wollerton, Ruth Chambers, Helen Wilson, and Anna Henderson, all who preceded her in death. Elizabeth was a graduate of Ceredo-Kenova High School. She was married to Paul Thacker and was part owner of Thacker’s Variety Store in Kenova. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of First Baptist Church of Kenova. Surviving her is her son, John Thacker of Winter Haven FL and his wife, Mary. Over the past several years, her niece, Lynn Hurt and family, have taken care of her needs. Services will be held at Rollins Funeral Home, Kenova, WV, on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 2:00PM. Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 2:00PM on the same day. Burial will be at Dock’s Creek Cemetary. The family would like to thank the staff at Wayne Nursing and Rehabilitation and Sweet Run Assisted Living for their care of Elizabeth over the past years.
