Ethel Adams Ellis-Hale of Huntington
A celebration of life and the homegoing of Ethel Adams Ellis-Hale, 90 of Huntington, WV, will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 30, 2011 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Greg Wells. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Wayne, WV. She was born August 7, 1921 in Premier, WV, the daughter of the late Avery Astor and Brook Rife Adams. She was preceded in death by her first husband of over 50 years, Roy Augustus Ellis; one sister, Ruth Adams Thompson Harrell; three brothers, Robert Earl, David Hurdle and Herman Boone Adams. Ethel graduated from Welch High School in 1940. After moving to Wayne, WV in the early 1950’s she was employed by the Wayne Gas Company and later worked at the Wayne County News where she became known as “Windy Ellis” through her weekly column “Round about Town.” After retiring from the newspaper she worked at the Department of Welfare in Wayne County. Throughout her life, Ethel was an avid reader. Also, writing poetry was second nature to her. Many of her poems and stories were published. At the age of 88, she wrote the story of her life which can be read online at: ethelellis.blogspot.com. She was a faithful member of Trinity Chapel and was truly loved by her church family. Survivors include her loving husband of 14 years, Jackie Hale; two sons, Roy-Astor “Corky” Ellis and wife, Paulette, Jeffery Lane Ellis and wife, Margaret; two step-children, Sandra Stephens and husband, Mike, Mark Hale and wife, Peggy; three grandchildren, Sara Simpson and husband, Phil, Tom Ellis and wife, Stephanie, Jenny Gue and husband, Justin; four step-grandchildren, Sarah Damron and husband, Jared, Kristen Stephens, Matthew and Rebekah Hale. She was the proud great-grandmother of nine, Zachary and Molly Simpson; Nathan, Bradley and Avery Ellis, Bella and Emma Gue, Andrew and Lauren Damron; along with a very special four year old friend, Molly Blankenship. She had many nieces and nephews whom she loved and kept in touch with until her brief illness. Ethel will always be remembered for her captivating smile. She deeply appreciated EVERY visitor, doctor, nurse, caregiver and aide as she always repaid them with a big smile and thank you.
