Thurman Jay Johnson of Kenova
Thurman Jay Johnson, 81, of Kenova, WV loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle died Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Jay was a son of the late James Jay Johnson and Lucy Pierce Johnson King. He was born in Charleston, WV on March 10, 1931. He retired after 32 years of service from Piedmont Airlines. Jay was a veteran having served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of American Legion Post #93 Kenova whose Honor Guard will conduct military graveside rites. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his step-father Luke King and two brothers, Claude “Jack” Johnson and Carl Brooks Johnson. Jay is survived by his beloved wife, Minnie Carney Johnson; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven J. and Kathy Johnson of Kenova; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jayne and Doug Angles of Glen Allen, VA and Bev Johnson of Kenova; three grandchildren, Kristin and Jeff Sanders, Ashlee and David Maynard all of Kenova and Jason Angles of Claremont, NH; three great grandchildren, Christopher and Benjamin Sanders and Maezie Angles; a brother Richard Johnson; one sister Mary Jarrell and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their thanks to Justin Jenkins, Southwestern Community Action Council and the 4th Floor Staff at St. Mary’s Hospital for their kindness and care of Jay. Jay enjoyed fishing and was able to spend time fishing both locally and on several trips with his extended family. He will be missed by his loving family and friends. Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2012 at Rollins Funeral Home in Kenova with Rev. Jim Richards officiating. Burial followed in Maple Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the funeral home.
