Betty Maynard Shelton of Huntington
Betty Maynard Shelton, 75, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away Monday, December 3, 2012 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, by Rev. Jack Liphardt and Pastor Don Dillon. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens at Wayne. She was born August 30, 1937 at East Lynn, WV, a daughter of Kathleen Adkins Mathis Terry of Wayne and the late Basil Mathis. Betty was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her family. Her most cherished role was as a child of God and demonstrated her faithfulness through teaching and studying his word, singing and playing the organ and piano. She was a member of Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, and was a former member of East Lynn Baptist Church and Grace Gospel Church. Her first husband of 40 years, Hoyt Maynard, also preceded her in death. Survivors include her loving husband, Dr. Charles I. Shelton; two sons, Hoyt Alan Maynard of Wayne, WV and Darren Maynard of Huntington, WV; two sisters, Bonnie (Joe ) Trautwein of Wayne and Teresa (Bill) Thompson of Huntington, WV; two brothers, Jonah (Tommia Jean) Mathis and Steve (Nancy) Terry, all of Wayne, WV; three grandchildren, Jason, Lake and Kendra Maynard; two great-grandchildren, Layne and Kaden Maynard; and her aunt, Joann Gillilan of Huntington, WV; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Morris Funeral Home.
