Sidney Haskel Blankenship of Lavalette
Sidney Haskel Blankenship, 71 of Lavlalette, WV, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, December 24, 2010 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Ray Williamson. Burial will follow at Community Memorial Gardens, Wayne, WV. He was born June 4, 1939 in Wayne County, WV, a son of the late Hiram and Thlema Lockhart Blankenship. Sidney was a retired Staff Sgt. for the U.S. Marine Corps having served in the Vietnam War. During his tour of duty, he received numerous awards including, a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, Three Purple Hearts, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with one star. He was also a member of the VFW Post #1064, the American Legion Post # 177 and a Life Member of the DAV. Survivors include his loving wife, Rebbie Craft Blankenship; a daughter, Marsha Ann Poff and husband, Glen of Wayne, WV; a special granddaughter whom was his pride and joy, Cassandra “Cassie” Poff; four sisters, Lillian Lowe of Kenova, WV, Irene Artrip and husband, Paul of Huntington, WV, Gladys Sue Dierdorff and husband, Don of Barboursville, WV, Sylvia Luther and husband, Jim of Kenova, WV; four brothers, James Blankenship of Lavalette, WV, Hiram Blankenship, Jr. and wife, Mary of Kenova, WV, Ellis Blankenship and Willis Blankenship, both of Barboursville, WV; a very special friend and caregiver, Cindy Petticrew; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Morris Funeral Home, Wayne, WV.
