Walter Lee Elkins of East Lynn

Walter Lee Elkins, 82, of East Lynn, W.Va., passed away at home on Thursday, December 1, 2011 and is now walking on the streets of gold. He was born October 14, 1929 at East Lynn, a son of the late Lewis and Martha Elkins. Four brothers, James, Elmer, Delbert, and Earsel Elkins also preceded him in death along with three sisters, Mary Burcher, Magdalene Adkins, and Genevieve Epling, and one grandson, Joseph Stephens. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Helen Raye Dickerson Elkins; one daughter, Brenda Stephens and her husband Roger; two sons, Jerry Elkins and Gary Elkins, all of East Lynn; five grandchildren, Sara, Julie, Jamie, Nicholas, and Thomas; and four great grandchildren, Jarrett and Ryan Chaney and Emmalea and Taylor Smith. Also surviving is one sister, Georgia Adkins and her husband George of Wayne, and a host of friends and family. Walter served his country as Lance Corporal and M.P. in the US Marine Corps Additionally he was a Teamster and a member of Canada Chapel on Wilson’s Creek. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011 at Johnson Tiller Funeral Home with Pastor Johnny Jackson officiating. Burial will follow in the Asbury Cemetery with military honors performed by the VFW Post 6103 and American Legion Post 89. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday at th
